My husband is currently making plans to build a large (40’) shelter – just a roof and 4 posts- to protect and House our ”use ‘em somedays” under so we can feel better about our piles due to their “intentional, dedicated space”, lol.

Absolutely! We don’t have the same “distance” issue for hauling things away, but we do have a time isssue. My husband works 40 hours a week away from home, and we have children at home full-time, which makes clean up even harder. Yes, it can absolutely be embarassing, but all of that “junk” has just been proving to be extremely useful. The hard part is trying to get it (and keep it) organized… it doesn’t take the mess away, but makes it more useful, and less difficult on the eyes.

My husband is in construction so he hauls home everything left over so we have a section I’ve dubbed the lumber yard on the other side of our shed that faces away from the house. It has come in handy more times than I can count and has saved us hundreds of dollars. I’m the one who usually has to organize the smaller stuff or it would be everywhere but I enjoy being outside. I recommend saving everything but just try to organize it and maybe hide it behind a building!

We have the same issue here, but partially because the property was already junkyard-y before we bought it! There were buildings FULL of random stuff (everything from car parts to clothes to a bar tap to lumber and extra toilets haha) and we have slowly worked at cleaninging them out but some stuff because we may need it “one day”. Thankfully we live near the dump though!

Amen to that! Yes, we stock pile free or very cheap so that we can use it later and it makes such a huge difference in our overhead on the farm!
