If you follow us on Facebook or Instagram, you saw the post in June about our new ATV being stolen. It was a rough time because it was stolen while we were at a family friend’s funeral, and our Blue truck had broke down on the beach that trip home. I was honestly amazed that someone would come that far off the road system to steal from people. A crime (or 5) of opportunity, I suppose.

We absolutely lucked out though, as one of our neighbors spotted our ATV being driven the next day, along with another stolen ATV. Police were called, and the person admitted to hot-wiring the machines. Court is ongoing, so I won’t say much more. But now we’re a little more conscious of our safety and security out here. Even though we live in bear country, I’ve never really been worried about the bears out here. Heck, I’m actually more worried about moose usually. They tend to be more ornery and less afraid of humans or dogs than the bears are. Before this week I’d seen two bears the whole time we’d been out here. And bear sign just a handful of times. If you’ve been reading the blog, or following along on other social media, you know our property can only be accessed by beach in the summer. What you may not know is that, just like the road, the beach has a set of rules for driving. I like to call this beach etiquette. Because the beach is such an interesting “driveway” I thought I’d explain its rules a little. Now some of these rules are unspoken things that we’ve just picked up as a courtesy, and some were explicitly explained to us.
