It’s summer! And yes, I am saying that even though I woke up to new snow this morning because we have summer plans! We’re 2/5 on our goals for 2021 (read them here) and are throwing at least one more into the mix. Of the goals we have completed, we’ve added some upgrades to our current cabin (new floor and a real oven!), and have been working on video production (YouTube channel here).

The three we haven’t completed are having a large garden, fixing all the vehicles, and finishing our driveway/adding a garage. I’ve got seeds started for the garden and parts ordered for a good chunk of our vehicle fleet.
All of that leaves the driveway and garage as the only goal we haven’t started on yet.
But!
We are going to start clearing driveway to the spot where we will put our new cabin next week. We’ve also decided to attach the garage to the big cabin. And getting a good portion of the new cabin up is a new goal for the summer! I know I wrote a whole post on our cabin plans before, but we’ve actually revamped the whole build after my MS diagnosis. The garage will double as a mudroom and include a pantry, I’ll have an attached greenhouse rather than solarium, and we are on the fence about in floor heat.
Due to time constraints, we’ve scrapped both cordwood and log cabin ideas. We will be milling most of the wood needed on our sawmill. The thing that I’m most sad about with the design change is that the house is now square and boring. But we can build smaller and still have plenty of usable space without those funky 45° angled walls. I’ll probably have to do a whole new post on it, eventually. But I’ll leave the old one up because there is a lot of good information and research put into it.
I’m excited for all the moving forward we’re doing this summer, even if we’ll be doing it covered in mud 😆
Update: While we had plans to start building a cabin on our current property, the opportunity arose to purchase another place nearby with a cabin already on it instead! You can read all about that here: The Beginning Of The End
